I started the Alaska Trailpackers Facebook group in 2021, in effort to lighten the load of the OG trail packers who were overwhelmed by the increase of fat bike traffic after the Covid Bike Boom. I saw a community need when I wanted to pitch in, but realized I had no idea who to connect with. The group has since grown to 1.5K members, and includes skiers, fat bikers, snowshoers (and even runners) who all work together to build and maintain our amazing trail network.
Trail packing is a lot of work! Here's a cross-post to Anchorage Fat Bike. When the trails were too snowy to ride, the Night Light series turned into a stomping party, where bikers who might not snowshoe before, could try out a pair and see the love that goes into their trails.
This infographic was made as an answer to the group's 'FAQs.' I try to make all of my group functions inclusive, welcoming, and empower people just getting into their sport. So far, so good!
In effort to illustrate some packing techniques from an aerial perspective, I learned how to make simple illustrated graphics. Here's one of the series demonstrating the "three-shoe-wide" technique, and a basic video showing how snow packs, using a video editor app called "RoughAnimator."
